Privacy Policy

This is Atanu Biswas's personal website at https://atanubiswas.com. It is run by one person — me — and this page says exactly what it records about you, why, how long it keeps it, and how to have it removed.

There is no advertising on this site, no tracking network, and no account to register for. Nothing here is sold or shared with anyone for marketing.

What this site records

• Page views — The URL you opened, your IP address, browser, operating system and country, and the page that referred you.
  To see which pages are worth keeping and where readers come from.
  Kept for 30 days, then deleted automatically.
• AI assistant conversations — The messages you send to the chat assistant and its replies, with your IP address and a one-way hash of your browser session — never the session itself.
  The questions visitors ask are how I learn what this site fails to explain. They are read by me and nobody else.
  Kept for 365 days, then deleted automatically.
• Contact form messages — Your name, email address, subject and message.
  So I can reply. Sent to my inbox; not added to any mailing list.
  Kept until you ask me to remove it, or until you unsubscribe.
• Newsletter subscriptions — Your name and email address, and only after you confirm through a link emailed to you.
  To send occasional posts. Every email carries a one-click unsubscribe link.
  Kept until you ask me to remove it, or until you unsubscribe.

Page views and assistant conversations are recorded whether or not you contact me. The contact form and the newsletter only record anything if you use them.

Who else sees it

A small number of services are involved in running the site. Each one is listed here with what it receives:

• Google Gemini — The message you type into the AI assistant, and the site information it needs to answer. Only while the assistant is switched on, and only when you send it something. Their privacy policy.
• Google Places — Nothing about you. The site reads its own public reviews from Google; your browser never contacts them. On the server, on a schedule. Their privacy policy.
• The email provider that carries this site's mail — The address you gave, for a message you asked for — a reply, a newsletter confirmation, or the newsletter itself. When such a message is sent.

Nobody else. No advertiser, no analytics network and no data broker is involved in this website.

Cookies

This site sets a session cookie so that forms can be protected against being submitted by another website on your behalf, and remembers your sign-in only if you are a member of staff signing in to the admin area. There is no advertising or tracking cookie. You can block cookies in your browser; the only thing that stops working is submitting a form.

The AI assistant

If you use the chat assistant, what you type is sent to Google Gemini so it can compose a reply, and both your message and the reply are stored here for 365 days. I read them — that is the point of having it — so please do not type anything into it you would not send me in an email. Your browser session is stored only as a one-way hash, so conversations cannot be traced back to a session after the fact.

Log files

Like any website, the server that hosts this one keeps standard access logs — IP address, browser, time, and the page requested — as part of the hosting service. They are used for diagnosing faults and nothing else.

Your rights

Whatever you are entitled to under the law where you live, this is what I will do on request, at no charge:

• Tell you what I hold about you, and send you a copy.
• Correct anything that is wrong.
• Delete it. Newsletter subscriptions also have a one-click unsubscribe link in every email, which needs no request at all.
• Stop using it for anything you object to.
• Send it to you or to someone else in a portable form.

GDPR Data Protection Rights

If you are in the UK or the European Economic Area, the list above is the General Data Protection Regulation's rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection and portability. I charge nothing for any of them and will answer within one month.

CCPA Privacy Rights (Do Not Sell My Personal Information)

If you are a California resident, you may ask what personal data has been collected about you, ask for it to be deleted, and direct that it not be sold. The third needs no request: nothing on this site is ever sold or shared for marketing, which is why there is no "do not sell" form to fill in.

How to ask

Email me at contact@atanubiswas.com or use the contact form. I will reply within one month and normally a great deal sooner — there is no team to route it through.

Children

This site is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect anything from a child under 13. If you believe a child has sent something through the contact form or the assistant, tell me and I will delete it.

Changes to this policy

If what the site collects changes, this page changes with it, and the date at the top changes too.
